1) Are you trying a new foobar2000 installation?

2) Was foobar2000 downloaded from here: http://www.foobar2000.org/download ?

3) If 1)=no, try a brand new portable installation

4) Same as 3) but without any component

When? Before you can even install it? After installation and immediately upon trying to start the player? Upon starting playback? Or some other time?

If anything except #1 or #2, please provide information about your configuration as specified by the rules of Support.

Some other time. Blue screen is erratic in this case.

I will provide more info later. I know, I should get this info before sending my first post, my fault.

You can have a portable installation in parallel to your regular one. Nobody wants you to throw away all your customizations on a whim. The point of testing with a clean installation is to narrow down the possible causes of the problem.

v1.3.2 crashes under XP

I'm on Windows XP SP3 too.

If this happened to me, I would firstly be pointing my finger at memory/hard drive issues and rogue drivers/services/processes as likely causes.
The reason I would suspect this is because foobar2000 is a mature software project with millions of Windows XP users and the fact that this problem does not seem to exist on anybody else's computer.

-- The first thing I would do is reboot the computer to have a fresh memory mapping.
I would then open up 'Process Hacker' (or 'Process Explorer') and have a contemplative look at all running processes and services and their memory/cpu stats.
While keeping one eye on Process Hacker, I would start foobar2000 ......

-- If nothing caught my eye and problem continues,
I would reboot the computer with 'Diagnostic Startup' option:  "Start -> Run -> type: msconfig -> 'System Configuration Utility' window opens -> General tab -> select: Diagnostic Startup -> Apply/Close/Restart".
Open 'Process Hacker' window again and have a good look at what is running now; you will see only bare bones services and processes.
While keeping one eye on Process Hacker, I would start foobar2000 ......

-- If problem is gone and foobar2000 runs,
then I would be thinking that I have a rogue service or process belonging to some rogue program while running in 'Normal Startup' mode and I need to find the culprit.

-- If problem continues,
then I would be thinking that there may be something wrong with my computer memory and I would run a memory diagnostic tool.
I would also think about any peripheral devices connected to the computer which may be causing a glitch, i.e. I would disconnect all peripheral devices from the computer and try again.
I would also be thinking about the health status of my Hard Drives (especially the one(s) containing the WINDOWS and FOOBAR2000 installations) and I would run diagnostics on these drives---[1] try running 'Chkdsk' utility at Command Prompt---[2] if drive is HDD, try running 'Defrag' utility---[3] try running 'HDDScan' third-party diagnostic utility.

-- If problem continues after all of the above,
then I would be scratching my head and asking for further help at this forum.
I would download 'NirSoft BSOD crash dump viewer' and run it after a crash and paste the exported information in a codebox along with my topic posting.

Right, I thought it was easy enough to understand. jszania please read this and test options 3) and 4).

jszania - here is a very simple quick test which will not do anything to your installed foobar2000 configuration:

- Copy the foobar2000 folder ("C:\Program Files\foobar2000") to another location such as another folder, your desktop or some other hard drive.
- create a text file in this copied foobar2000 folder and name it portable_mode_enabled (without extension)
- start the copied foobar2000.exe
- what happens ? ....if it still crashes, then run a fresh foobar2000 test installation (choosing portable mode) as described by eahm/foosion

I've realised it is a problem with a driver, not FB2K related.
