CPU utilization

Hello everybody.

I'm new in this forum. I'm new in using foobar, and i have to say that it is very great!

I have a little problem with my cpu (amd 1300 Mzh + VIA 686B with George's PCI Latency version 0.19 installed).
I have a sound blaster live! 5.1 and i'm using kx driver 3532 rc2.
When i use foobar 0.60 with kernel streaming output i notice that my cpu is used at about 8-21%.
When i use foobar with directsound output my cpu is use at 0-40%.
When i use foobar with asio output my cpu is used at 21%.
Why my cpu is so much highly utilized ?

I use cad program an i need the less utilization of foobar when i listen at mp3s.

Can anyone help me , please ?

It could be this.

Thank u RIV@NVX .

BTW if i use winamp my cpu utilization is 0%.

Just curious, which DSP plugins are you using?

On my system (fb2k 0.6, Microsoft WDM drivers on SBLive!, KernelStreaming, dsp: attenuator and advanced limiter) I have 0-2% cpu utilization when playing mp3s.

(fwiw, I had ~20% cpu load with kx drivers, no matter whether I used via DSound, waveOut or KS for playback.. Creative's own drivers clocked in at ~8-15%, so I rolled back to M$ default drivers)
A riddle is a short sword attached to the next 2000 years.

My active DSPs are :

Attenuator
Resampler (target sample rate: 48000 S/s ; internal precision: 64 bit)

If a disable both them i still have still above ~0-16% cpu utilization.

So i have to use boring Micro$oft wdm drivers to solve my problem or winamp ?

I really need my cpu less loaded.

In order to use less CPU resources, I further suggest you to use smaller screen size of foobar2000 and minimized is recommended.

If you go on applying resampler, try 32-bit precision and NOT slow mode for your resampler. This might not affect the sound quality much especially if you do not use other DSP.

In fact, since the latest foobar applies 64-bit decoding, its cpu usage has been increased much.

Okkey, thank you everybody for answering me.

Actually, closing the kx mixer during foobar playing and disabling the dither and slow mode , i succeeded in having less foobar cpu utilization. Now it is above ~0-2%

Another reply.

Monitoring foobar, during mp3s or mpcs playing and not changing my actual dsp and playback options, i also noticed that sometimes it uses still above ~0-21% cpu load and sometimes ~0-2%. I think this is very strange. And i do not understand why.

BTW now i think that this is a problem caused by my kx driver that highly perform SB Live.

However, be aware that disabling dither in SB Live! series is not recommended although you might not hear the difference. You would waste the high internal precision of data since the outputting format was a distorted 16-bit samples (no dither).

If you could accept this result, forget my words.

No, it is not, because it would happen on *any* other soundcard when you open MIDI In. And kX needs to open MIDI In for kX Automation MIDI control.

Here i'm again with a new problem.
Recently i bought an audigy card SB0090 10k2 and installed kX driver 3533.
Everything is fine, and if i close my kX mixer pannel control, foobar uses cpu at above ~0%.

But recently i noticed that if i open some kind of internet pages like this (this is a random flash page) my foobar starts to use cpu at above ~21%.

Is it a bug ?
Sorry for my english i hope u understood everything and sorry for reporting always the same problem ......
