SB Audigy and Digital DIN Connection

A few years back (1999), I bought the Creative Soundworks DTT2500 speakers, since I had a Hollywood+ and they were one of the only computer speakers with Dolby Digital capabilities.  Then, last year, I "upgraded" my sound card to a SB Audigy Gamer (this was before I joined HA, and, having done my homework, am now kicking myself in the ass  )and could output the sound from it to my speakers through the use of a DIN connector.  The Audigy programs come with an option to set the sampling rate of the digital output, in this case the DIN connection.  It has three options, 44.1KHz, 48KHz, and 96KHz.  I have it set at 44.1, since the higher rates cause occasional popping artifacts.  Does anyone know if this is actually outputting a 44.1KHz WAV at 44.1KHz without upsampling to 48KHz, like the analog output, or is it upsampling and then downsampling again?

If it works in Asynchronous Sample Rate Conversion, like the SB live, it upsamples (very high, in the MHz range), then downsamples.

Thanks for the help.  I'm somewhat shocked there's no noticable aliasing...
