RCA Stereo to Infinity Alpha

This might be too trivial a question. I want to buy a pair of nice speakers to my very recently bought Stereo-Link USB device. I decided to go for a pair of Infinity Alpha 40s. Do I need a receiver to connect these two devices? I don't really understand what a receiver would do in my case. I don't need DTS decoding/5.1 channels/radio etc. and DAC is provided by the stereo-link already.  I guess Infinity Alpha has banana connectors. Would you be so kind to tell me what kind of hardware I exactly need. Thanks a lot.

Since all the decoding is done in your usb hardware all you need now is something to power you new speakers. Unless your speakers are self powered you will need some kind of amp.

You could use a receiver because they usually have some sort of amp built it in. Or you could pick up a standalone unit.

Does anyone know of a decent amp under $100? The receivers look quite ugly and big. When I search under amplifier I get the ones for car
stereo. Thanks...

You simply will not get a decent amplifier for $100. It's remotely possible if you buy it used, but even that is unlikely. I suggest you split the budget between the speakers and the amp, and a good general idea is to not spend less than half the money you spend on speakers on the amp. Otherwise you're better off buying cheaper speakers, since you will not even come close to realizing their potential with a cheap amp.

I somehow disagree, you can get very decent low-power stereo integrated amplifiers from known brands for around $120 first hand. Speakers are much more of a limiting factor than amps, most of which can be considered sonically transparent nowadays.

Thanks a lot everyone...
I checked out the reviews on a couple of sites and got AudioSource Amp Two amplifier (refurbished) for $150 at buy.com. Lucky me, there was only two left. I hope there won't be any problem just because it's refurbished.  Now I was looking for a place that sells a pair of Infinity Alpha 40 speakers for around $500...
