lets make some mkv file with audio and video using mkvmerge and open in foobar - audio will play, it is possible to alter tags
lets take this file and run through official cleaning tool mkclean, that fixes errors and ensures standard compliance - file no longer recognized by foobar. It doesn't matters what switch used for mkclean so i guess the problem is because it puts some cues in the beginning of the file

Audio-only files however remain to be recognised. This is very unfortunate since sometimes I want to load video in foobar because audio in it have higher quality/bitdepth than the one on audiocd...
This is funny actually how the tool that supposed to fix stuff makes foobar reject it. For any other software I know of its effect varies from "nothing" to "very positive".

QUOTE (Kohlrabi @ Sep 3 2012, 09:24) *
Talking about MKVs with videos inside, I noticed that seeking and track changes take an extraordinarily amount of time on MKVs with video streams inside. Is there some way to work around this problem?

Any further idea about this? I have several live DVDs which I remux to MKV, no re-encoding, just keep the MPEG2+LPCM, put the names of the songs to the chapters and mux together.

If I use the library by tags is a bit of a mess, obviously the MKVs don't have tags, but using folder structure is fine. The files are properly recognized and I get the audio separated by chapters with the song names. However, seeking or advancing tracks takes forever. A full minute plus a couple of seconds, I measured. During that time the HDD led shows full activity. If I open the MKV with a video player, track changes and seeking are instantly.

And no, I don't want to use a video player. I'd like to have all my songs in one place. And as said above, having to keep redundant copies just for foobar isn't the best. If no one intends to fix this it's fine, I'd just like to know the status of Matroska on foobar tongue.gif
