tagging FLAC albums with local CDDB

Dear community,

I have loads of obscure live albums in FLAC format.

Usually I use mp3tag to edit the tags & download info for the albums from freeDB with mp3tag.
I also use Foobar2000.

However, for many albums, neither mp3tag nor Foobar2000
does find the album info.

A collector has sent me his personal local CDDB with the info,
but
neither mp3tag nor Foobar2000 allow the use of a local CDDB.

Can anybody recommend a software, that can access a local CDDB to tag FLAC files?

I haven't tried this but you could set up a localhost freedb server and configure foobar to use this localhost server (foobar cddb server configuration is located in preferences, tools, tagging, freedb tagging).
Here's an example of setting up a local server using a java port of the cddb server.

Did not work. The CDDB file I received from the other collector is a DAT file.

However...: He uploaded his information to a freeDB when he ripped his CDs with EAC.

So, how can I get mp3tag or Foobar2000 to access that particular freeDB that he used?

If you have the fully qualified domain name of the server you can configure foobar2000 to use it instead of the default server (freedb.freedb.org). Use the following menu options: File, Preferences, Tools, Tagging, Freedb Tagger. Use the add button to add the new server and enter the correct domain name.

Looks like he's using the default freeDB server so using any other domain name won't provide a solution. On second thought, regarding the .DAT file he mailed you: if it's named CDDB.DAT it's probably a file that is used by EAC for its own local CD information database. This is not the same as the (local) freeDB database although it can be exported by EAC into the freeDB format. My best guess is that the collector you refer to has the CD information stored in the local EAC database (and not in any freeDB server). I guess it is doable to export it to a freeDB format and use the procedure I described in my previous post. It's a bit contrived but it's the best I can come up with.
