FLAC Embedded in Wav Files

Hello everyone.

I've been told recently that is is possible to embed FLAC files in between WAV files.

I've googled it, and found something called WAVEFORMATEX and WAVEFORMATEXTENSIBLE, which from my limited knowledge, refers to some Microsoft-created data structure for the WAV format.
Is this the only way to embed FLAC to WAV?

Also, I know about encapsulating FLAC into a container (such as Ogg or Matroska), and was wondering if it is the same thing?

For such files (FLAC in between WAV), is it possible to play/decode it? It sounds complicated to decode and can't think of any reasons to create such a file in the first place.

I've been googling a long time and running out of key words.

Anyone can help?

Thanks
