I'll probably get killed for posting this, but what gives:

1) WMA9Pro
2) Q90_44_2_24
3) EAC + WMCmd.vbs

Why would you get killed for posting what you use?  IMO you shouldn't have to worry about posting what codec is your choice.  Everyone here at HA should tolerate a person's personal choice of a codec, be it something that they do not agree with.

BTW: I won't post what codecs and encoders I use, because I'm not a "big shot" around here

That comment was meant as a joke, because I was expecting people to argue over it

Cream floats to the top.

Good luck to Garf.

EAC secure mode, No C2, Disable Cache, Append Gaps to Previous Track.

Then.

Compress with Monkey's Audio extra high mode.

Then.

Tag with Foobar's Masstagger and replaygain scan.

I use MPC 1.14, -standard -xlevel, EAC in secure mode, no C2 detection.

Same here

See on my signature
MPC: --quality 10 --xlevel (v. 1.15s) (archive/transcoding)
MP3:  LAME 3.96.1 --preset standard (daily listening/portable)

For normal listening at home and in my car...

flac.exe -8

For my portable (CBR-only) MP3 player...

lame.exe --alt-preset cbr 128

(Although I know FhG could be a good or better option for CBR at this bitrate based on what I've read, LAME with this setting sounds fine to me on my portable.  "If it ain't broke, don't fix it.    )

General archive:Musepack 1.14 --standard --xlevel |Nero AAC Normal
Lossless archive:WavPack 3.97(private use) |FLAC 1.1.0(for distribution of samples)
Portable use:LAME 3.90.3 --alt-preset standard(maybe overkill for my cheap portable headphones)
Within video:Ogg Vorbis 1.0.1(I'm planning to use aoTuV instead though.) -q[3-5] |Nero AAC LC/HE

I'd like to say good luck to Garf, too.

no "hot shot" here either:

archiving: Wav files burnt to CD's

for my 2 portables: --alt-preset standard -Y (lame 3.90.3)

For my PC: for simplicity MP3, too (due to my portables)

RIPPING: only EAC (secure mode, no C2, cache turned off).

mppenc 1.15r
--quality 6 --xlevel
EAC for extraction

In my favorite albums, lossless (OptimFROG 4.507 --encode --mode extranew --optimize fast)

still on FLAC for archiving after playing very briefly with WavePack Hybrid. A good portion of my collection is in APE but have no plans on using that again or converting those to anything else.

for lossy things where I own the master CD and it is not from a vinyl source (damn few for me these days as nearly everything I do is from 33/45/78s) currently waffling between Compaact MP4 files (via Foobar diskwriter) and MPC.
Most likely - for the moment at least - going with low bitrate MP4 files for my Old Time Radio section on my audio site. In my own tests  with Compaact! it sounds far superior with comparable sizes in the 30-50 Kbps range than the many 32 Kbps CBR MP3 I have accumulated over the years.
