New User: Help with EAC and FLAC Encoding

Greetings all!

I have a decent music collection and have been archiving my music for a while now.  Lately I have been using CDex ripping to .ogg at q=7 for my Rio Karma.  Now I am wanting to do a complete archival of my music using a lossless codec and then convert them to .ogg for my Karma.

I've been reading about how wonderful EAC is and really want to redo my library with a lossless codec like FLAC.  I have spent the past couple days reading different forums but I can't seem to find anything about setting up EAC to use FLAC, or even if it's a good idea.

Does anyone have information regarding how to configure EAC to use FLAC, or know where I can find such information?

I'm also open for any suggestions in case there are better tools, encoders, etc for what I am trying to do.  I appreciate any help and welcome any advice.

Thank you all.

I should also add that I am also considering Easy CD-DA Extractor.  It looks extremely easy to use and has everything I want to do build in.  Any opinions about this product?

Thanks again.

Do a search in the lossless audio forum here.  I'm sure you'll find something.. I just saw a few threads the other day when looking around in that forum.  If I was really friendly I'd find a few direct links for ya.. but I'm far to lazy for that

Summary: EAC is broadly believed to work most securely with damaged discs and flaky drives. I would venture to say that if you are sufficiently paranoid to abandon ogg-q7 for flac, you should be sufficiently paranoid to abandon everything for eac. You need to invest some time into setting it up, then it's a breeze. To use it with flac, you have to download and setup an external encoder manually, search the forum for the instructions.

And don't burn yourself out reripping things "just because", some people end up using iTunes because of that. ;-)

EAC with flac:

Genmerally, EAC will run through a setup routinne when launched.  Save the default profile using eac->profiles so you can use it again later.

Download a flac compressor from rarewares, there is a link for it on the home page for this forum.  If you have a P4, use the P4 optimized version.  While at rarewares hit the links button.  On that page link to Case's Musepack Page.  At the top of that page link to Misc.  Under the heading for EAC follow that link, it will show you how to set up flac, and other encoders.

I hope this helps.
