Windows Media Player 12 VBR Codec?

Two questions on this topic for Windows users:

1) Can someone confirm that WMA 9.2 is the codec used for VBR ripping in WMP 12?

2) Under File Properties, WMP does not consistently display the codec used on a lossy file.  Why is that and can it be changed so that the codec is always displayed?

Thanks!

Whilst I appreciate the potential merits of a Q&A/debate over WMA, I’ve split it to a separate thread so that this one can be left as a place for the OP’s specific questions to be answered.
