Free Audio Encoders that leave tags and file names intact?

Are there  any free audio encoders/converters that leave both the file names and tags the same as the old files?  I've tried Audio Performer and Any Audio Converter, but it's alot of work to retag. Thanks

@OP: Although foobar2000 is most likely what you want, what formats are you converting from and to?

What operating system?

Please review our Terms of Service. Number six is there for a reason. With this in mind I don't think it's unreasonable to expect the initial post to be complete enough in order to prevent people from having to guess at relevant information.
