Flac to Flac & Ape to Flac while keeping the tags

Hello again everyone,

Can anyone told me how to convert Flac to Flac & Ape to Flac while keeping the tags plz ?
till now I used Speek's Flac Frontend & the official Monkey Audio Frontend to decode to wav & then I re-encode to Flac Q8 using Speek's Flac Frontend ... but I always lost the tag during the decode to wav ... I know I can use Case's Tag to retag from filenames when I re-encode, but due to the strange way I name my folders/files this is not very practical to me
... so I was asking myself if there were any other easier way to do it under win32 ?
... maybe Speek plan to add the feature to his flac frontend ? in the same way his Ogg Frontend allow .flac & .ape input & keep the tag for the outputed .ogg ?
If you know a flac frontend that allow flac & ape input & keep the tags ... this is exactly  the tool I search ...

Thks for Help

for FLAC to FLAC, you can do

tag <newfile> --fromfile <oldfile>

I'm not sure if that works for FLAC to Ape - you're welcome to try it.

Personally I use Foobar and it's discwriter component for any conversions between formats.

With the help of plugins it can easily be set up to convert between almost any formats and it keeps all the tags intact.

maybe export tags to csv / import tags from csv is of interest to you.

Foobar2000 with the CLI encoder component keeps the tags (that's what I use).

I assume Frontah and dMC do this as well.

Cerebus: tag <newfile> --fromfile <oldfile>
jtclipper: export tags to csv / import tags from csv

==> This both sound interesting but you didn't point to me an Appz so it's still blury for a newbie like me , I assume it's with foobar too ???

Cerebus: "I'm not sure if that works for FLAC to Ape" ==> I don't do Flac to Ape

picmixer & PoisonDan:
Thks for pointing me to foobar ... foobar is so often the answer that I guess one day I will have to "seriouly" test it despite its terrible look ... if so hard to leave WA5
... but well WA5 not supporting Vorbis ripping angers me so much that's maybe it's time
to let AOL burn in hell ...

I will test Frontah & dMC first in the next days, thks all for answers

Tag.exe can be found at http://www.ca5e.tk

I assume Dimitris referred to a feature of his tagger TGF. Click his username for a link.

Checkout Speek's Multi-Frontend.  I've been using it to convert APE to FLAC and with the Add Tags button on it's been working flawlessly.  It supports FLAC to APE, so I'd imagine if it goes one way it'd work just fine in the opposite direction.  The Multi-Frontend is actually a great tool to go between most any formats.
