A good realtime normalization player

Hi everyone! I want to know if you guys know a PC player with a good real time normalization feature.

For me, the player with the best implementation of this feature is AIMP3

Since i listen to lots of genres (classical to metal) and i usually listen to them while playing an online game, it's important that they have almost the same volume level.

One important thing: i don't use ReplayGain because my collection doesn't have it and i think normalization works better.

But, for media library, AIMP3 is really bad. Really really bad.

Is there a Foobar 2000 plugin which implements normalization the same way AIMP3 does?

Thanks!

Don't use normalization, use replaygain.  Its made for exactly what you are doing and will work a lot better.

A player that supports ReplayGain can scan your files and add the tag.  Then your files will have it!

Alternatively, you can apply MP3Gain or WAVGain to your files which adjusts the loudness of the files themselves so it doesn't depend on the player.

I'd estimate that about 80% of commercial music is already normalized.    But, there is still a shipload of loudness variation between these normalized songs.

Have you seen this: http://www.foobar2000.org/components/view/foo_r128norm ?

Can't say anything more about it as I haven't used it.

Thanks!

I'm using it. The volume appears to be lower than in AIMP3... i don't know. AI alters the volume in real time so... i have to test it more.

Yeah... i usually normalize them on Audacity and reencode them (when is lossless). So i can use the normalization in real time... So...

Since most music (including the quiet songs) is already normalized (maximized), many of the quiet sounding songs cannot be boosted without clipping (distortion) and the only way to match volumes is to make the loud songs quieter.

Like some sort of automatic volume control or dynamic compression?

That's OK if you like it, but it's a different concept and it destroys the dynamics of a song/performance.

Normalization and ReplayGain retain the original dynamics...  Quiet parts of a song remain relatively quiet and loud parts remain relatively loud...  These tools are similar to setting the volume control at the beginning of the song and leaving it until the next song starts.

Automatic volume control and compression are more like adjusting the volume in the middle of the song (compression faster than you could do it by hand).

The 2nd time you normalize, nothing happens!  Try normalizing twice, or 10 times in Audacity...    So, I assume AMPI3 is doing something else.

P.S.
If AMPI3 is using the term "normalization" incorrectly, they wouldn't be the 1st to do that.
