Album List Panels interaction?

Above my playlist window I have 3 Album List panels set out as Genre, Artist and Album ala iTunes.

Basically I'm wondering if selecting an artist in one panel could affect what shows in the other two.
Any ideas?

Secondly, could the album one be split into two (that part I know is possible) and have the top one show albums from only ONE artist (VA_Electronic) and the other the albums from another (VA_Rock) as my compilations I'd rather sort by albums.
Any ideas?

Use foo_browser instead of album list.

For the second part, you could either use two different browser panels (one for VA albums, other for single artist albums) or use titleformatting to show all the VA albums first.

ehhh, i'd recommend Album List over browser.  browser is not really as functional as album list.  you can also make your album list very small, and it automatically throws your results into a playlist view that i find to be quite useful.

So far I haven't managed to get browser working but I'll take a look into it to see what I can find.

Edit: When you mean browser, do you mean going through the music with the Playlist Tree and showing the results in the *Browser* tab? Because from what I've seen this method acts the same as using the Album List panel with the library view tab.

What do you mean by making my album list very small?
What I'd like to do is have 3 separate listings in the album list, one for artist (Right-click -> View -> "by artist" did the trick), and two that show only the music from a particular artist (in this case VA_Rock and VA_Electronic). I thought of maybe editing the "view by" options in album list but I can't figure how to get it to work or even if it's possible.

If you want an iTunes-like experiance, use foo_browser.

However, if you're comfortable using foo_playlist_tree then by all means, forget about iTunes and look-alikes and learn to make the most of playlist_tree: it's much more powerful.
(foo_browser is actually a watered-down derivative of foo_playlist_tree, both made by Chris Bowron)

Album List is nice, but probably not what you are looking for as it can't interact with other instances of itself, as you've experienced.
(I don't know what compelled iron fist to bring it up, other than he wanted to confuse you)

foo_browser was spun off from foo_playlist tree... so in this case, if you just want the lovely panels, use browser.

Thanks for the info regarding Playlist Tree, so far I hadn't really found a use for it which is why it was stuck on the side with Explorer  I think it's time I give it some attention.

I can't help but think that Playlist tree looks like a hell of a lot of working... I think I'm going to have to weigh how much I need these features as I have exams coming up next week.

I mean I'm still struggling to understand why when I have two Playlist Tree panels they show different things. They're both on artist, except one is the old one, when the rogue tags (14th Precinct, 33HZ, 4 Strings, A Split Second ect that are from compilations) have been put into the right artist group (VA_Electronic) yet when I have a second playlist tree window the changes I made to the files themselves don't show...

Actually... The tutorial just had time to sink in ^^ This is for the VA lists I asked for  *hits self* Thanks  (Still confused about the two panels showing different stuff though... Any ideas?)

middle-click -> refresh queries

I'm confused as to why you have 2 playlist_tree views.
You only ever need one.

In case I wasn't clear before, playlist_tree is not for replicating iTunes, but it is more powerful.

foo_browser is for replicating iTunes.

Then I misunderstood

I thought one playlist_tree panel I would set with a query to show VA_Electronic and another to show VA_Rock, and then just use Album List for artists... It seems I've underestimated playlist_tree yet again  I'll dig deeper into it when I have more time.

In the mean time I'm going to have to suss out the browser window... Any ideas why I'm stuck? I've loaded the component... how does one use it? I've noticed if I click groups in the Playlist_tree window they appear in the browser, however if I use Album_list they appear in the other window... Meh, so confusing ^^

Bobly start by getting rid of playlist tree. I don't know why you keep interpreting "use foo_browser" as "do something with playlist tree". For now, just don't think about playlist tree!

Then, go to the layout tab in Column UI preferences and add a horizontal splitter and then add the browser panels (as many as you require). Then go to browser configuration and set the panels.

That's it.

Sorry I guess I forgot to explain why I'm not using browser.
I added two browser panels, shift+right-click, set one to artist and one to album... Both show as artist[0] or album[0]... ?
Yes I have added my music library to foobar... i don't get it :s

Edit: 10 minutes later and I've worked it out... Restart Foobar... >.<

Thanks for all the help guys
