Gracenote in EAC?

Gracenote recently started an initiative to properly tag classical works. Is it possible to access Gracenote with EAC or am I stuck with freedb?

Thanks.

Bob

I thought you needed a licence to use Gracenote?
And does the method really in the linked thread really work? I assume not judging by replies.
Nah doesnt, entering it in a internet browser shows the server is up.

To use Gracenote CDDB with EAC. . . .  first, download & install the freeware, Player.

http://www.vuplayer.com/player.php

Perform the CDDB lookup with Player, then export the info as "cdplayer.ini."

Finally, import the lookup into EAC:

database-->get CD information from-->cdplayer.ini.

Not the most comftable method but meh if it does the job.
I'll remember this...Thanks!

It's fairly painless, and if freedb doesn't have it--then 9 times out of 10--gracenote will.  And you're welcome!

Thank you SO MUCH. You just saved me hours of tedious typing.

BTW - there is an option in the player to automatically save looked up CD's to the cdplayer.ini file.

It's amazing how well the search function works in this forum.

...and I'm NOT being sarcastic.

Hi Greynol,

No sarcasm taken.    Actually I did do a search on Gracenote before posting. I make it a habit to do that. Guess I didn't scroll down far enough through the results to find this. Thanks for the link.

does this method only work for artist, album, and track title, though? when I look at the disc information in Player, it clearly has imported a greater amount of info (composer, genre, etc.) from Gracenote, but it seems to only be saving artist, album, and track title to the cdplayer.ini file. Is there any way to get it to export all of the information it's getting from Gracenote?

(Currently, the only way I've found to get all of that info is to rip my cds in both EAC and iTunes, and then copy the tags from the iTunes files to the FLACs that come out of EAC. It works, but it's not very efficient.)

Thank you to odious_m and UrbanVoyeur for providing a relatively handy method for obtaining gracenote in EAC.

It would be handy to have all the CD info exported in the ini file, but it's better than nothing for now. Better then copying all the info from iTunes.

Gracenote have vested interest in getting rid of CDDB1 which is used by by FreeDB as well and moving people the CDDB2. In fact new licenses to use CDDB1 are not available.

The licensing restrictions for using CDDB2 are onerous, you have to limit betas to very small number of people and submit final applications to Gracenote for "compliance testing". Even though it is at least possible for EAC to have CDDB2 support, as it's closed source, I suspect that Andre just doesn't want to be bothered dealing with staying within the license restrictions. I've lost count of the number of times I've had to explain to people asking for CDDB2 support in open source applications is pointless as the licensing restrictions make it impossible.

Is it possible to somehow integrate this into foobar?

Again I suspect Peter would baulk at the license requirements. Gracenote are basically evil and unless you are $bigcorp then it's impossible to negotiate them into a less evil agreement than their standard one. For example Apple does not have to submit iTunes for "compliance testing".

You might try Windows Media Player, not because of the player but because it uses AMG.

AMG is very good in classical music, in case of Beethoven you get the not only the works with a opus, but also all of the WoO, Hess, Bramati, over 700 works.
