I like it for my rockbox nano and it's one of the best lossy formats for my Squeezebox. I very much would be interested in a new release.  Thank you for the last.

Yeah, i'll just say +1 and thanks for your hard work. Any improvement is of course a welcome improvement, this codec is excellent for quality and filesize.

Another "yes" vote, and a big "thank you" to Aoyumi for making the codec so good already.

I use Vorbis on my portable Samsung player. It's the best lossy codec, and Aoyumi made it better. Aoyumi is number one! Thanks for your work!

I use Vorbis for all portable use. Thanks for all the effort put into this great project. I can only hope for Ogg Vorbis to survive.

I also use this version to squeeze music on to my portable player at about 64 kbps. I mostly use this for transcribing/learning songs so the quality doesn't have to be perfect. Very much appreciate your efforts at the low bit rates here!

I just found out that the new cheap SONY flash based mp3 players they all play OGG now... So I'm considering! Not sure as why the aouTuV b5 is the recommended encoder since it introduces noise in the high frequencies...

AFAIK It only introduces noise if you increase the low-pass settings far over the default value.

the noise shows up with "-s %r -Q -q5,000000 - -o %d" which is pretty standard in FB2K, no low-pass setting... You just can't see the noise if you encode with q3 and below because the lowpass will be automatically lower.

can anyone tell me if libvorbis 1.2.0 has aotuv4.5/R1 incorporated into the code?

I'm not sure, but if I remember correctly autuv beta 2 was the last to be merged into libvorbis. 1.2.0 brings additional fixes, but no aotuv tunings.

http://svn.xiph.org/trunk/vorbis/CHANGES:
libvorbis 1.1.0 (2004-09-22) -- "Xiph.Org libVorbis I 20040629"
* merges tuning improvements from Aoyumi's aoTuV with fixups

readme.txt from oggenc_aoTuV_b5.zip:
"Since beta2 was adopted as official 1.1, beta3 uses 1.1 as a base"

That's all.

Where do u see noise on Q5 Bourne? im using AoTuV b5 encoder at Q5 and i tested it with the original wav many times and i havent noticed noise at that quality.

Ayoumi have acknowledged the problem so you don't need to be looking for it
(and I'm too lazy to explain now...)

Then i hope he can focus more on this problem at the specific bitrates that causes it on his new beta 5.5 release.

I see Aoyumi has already agreed to release a new version, but for what it's worth, I'm in favor as well.  Ogg vorbis is my singular favorite codec, so I'm always in favor of anything that strengthens it!
I just discovered Opus. Holy mackerel!

A full set of compiles will be available at Rarewares a little later. You will notice that oggenc2.85 and oggdropXPd1.9.0 in aoTuVb5.5 flavours have grown quite considerably in size. This is due to the inclusion of the new 0.1.3 release of libsamplerate as the built in resampler. According to Erik, the medium and best options are now of notably higher quality.
