it's not wide screen, as much as 1024 x 768 is ... is like setting the with for a 640x480 screen, you don't do that.

Sorry, I got your res mixed up with 1600x1050 (or whatever it is...). Either way though, you don't want 1200 px lines of text. People would never read text with lines that long.

And you try to do decent column design on CSS :-P

All links to the CoolEdit/Audition plugins seem to have gone the way of the dodo bird. Will they be making a return? I'd sure miss 'em!

There seems to be a glitch with the site for me. If I load it in a window, it looks fine. But when I resize the window, the Navigation menu (not popup menu) shifts over and floats too far to the right or left (depending which way I resized it). Other than that, I like the new design better than the old one.

Happens with IE, indeed. With Firefox, the menu is OK.

Interesting. Is that IE7 or 6?

I use IE7. Not sure sure if it is like that in IE6.

You'll find them under the LAME and OggVorbis Library tags. I can understand why they're there, but I can also understand some confusion in trying to find them! wink.gif

Good design and navigation, bad colors.
Edit: But I recommend you to link to the encoder/decoder pages in the news entries...

Why are the Vorbis Lancer builds gone? Isn't that the 'best', easiest to use Ogg Vorbis encoder out there?

The old page looked heaps better but the menu's are a big improvement now. Good work guys.

I would not have thought of looking there! But that makes me very happy to know they will be continuing with the new site. Thanks so much! smile.gif

Yeah, but let's wait and see if some HA members suggest other colour schemes...

Well, noone here bothered suggesting changes. Fortunately, my good old friend Iain "Mac" Staffell stepped up and produced this:

What do you guys think?

You hurt me roberto... I did suggested a black background tongue.gif

Anyways, the new color scheme is nice, soft, easy on the eyes... but it lacked contrast. Eyes will tire easily trying to read text.

I thought that was a joke :-B

Sorry, but no black. IMO, it looks quite un-professional. Not that RareWares is a professional site, but I'm afraid it would end up looking like those circa-1998 Geocities pages.

Heeeeey Roberto, hows you, como vai amigo? smile.gif

I agree with you about not having a black background, as it wouldn't be pleasant for me, statically (maybe for my eyes but not for my brain, hehe). One thing I'm finding difficult to get used with is the new and now current color scheme - it is surely very soft and not eye-tiring but it is weird, to me at least, the orange and green.

Just as a final remark: I don't know nothing about colors and web development. So there you go. blink.gif

Colour scheme schmulour umm... scheme.

I use Rarewares quite a bit (many thanks Roberto and David), but I tend to just pick the section I need, Ctrl+F to find the app name and pow: click download.

Rarewares is one of those sites where speed of load and ease of navigation is paramount. I think the update is a real improvement (thanks David Naylor).

I couldn't give a fetid dingo's kidney about the colour scheme really, as long as the text is easy to read.

A black / dark color scheme combined with the name RareWares, I'm not sure. I've already had problems with either my ISP or my webspace provider (can't remember) a few years ago because they thought RareWares was offering illegal programs.

Well, yeah, you got a point there, Sebastian.

Anyway, pondering upon Synthetic Soul's points (which he eloquently posted with some very colourful idioms wink.gif ), I think I have to agree: Who cares about the colors? It's the utilities that's the meat.

That said, I like HA's coloring scheme, also www.isohunt.com, also RyanVM's forum.

I've seen the new layout for the first time today. It's different, but I like it; even the default colour scheme. My favourite scheme is probably "Grey n red". Navigation is a lot better now. No problem now to tell even a newbie "Go to rarewares.org and grab the latest oggenc". Nice!

Contrary to the about page's claim The code is not completely valid, though. tongue.gif Sometimes standalone tags like <br> or <img> are closed with a slash: <br />. While this is required in XHTML it's invalid in HTML. On all pages I checked there's a handful of those errors. But that's it and that means tremendously better code than the majority of websites. Solid work!

Thanks for the heads up.

The reason for what you've found is that the old page was XHTML, and I tend to prefer HTML 4.01, so I've converted the site "one step back" you might say. It is just as semantic, though, and even IE knows what it is.

I'll have a look around and find those tags... Done.
