I\'ve been useing MPEG2 AAC all this time DOH!!!

Hey, as i was searching for a new winamp plugin using the lastest faad i found that in robertos site theres an AACenc version with default MPEG4 encoding, then i thought wtf am i usig now??? so i right clicked on the info of my encodes and there it was, MPEG2 format  . Well seems i'll have to go through all the ripping/encoding again to transform my audio collection to MPEG-4 AAC and keep it also in Monkey's Audio for future encoder updates...

As a side question, does anybody know if theres a good quality main profile MPEG4 AAC Encoder out there??? What advantages will main profile have over low complexity???

You don't have to convert. A MPEG-2 AAC LC file is the same as a MPEG-4 AAC LC file except for one bit in the header. No problem at all there.
Eventually you'd probably want to convert them to .mp4 files anyway, and that can be done without a problem with both.

Hmm, I don't know if you already want to step over to mp4, but if you do just use mp4creator, which can be found on Roberto RareWares site.
Should be used something like this:
mp4creator60 -create=oldaacfile.aac newmp4file.mp4

mp4 files can be played by the audiocoding.com winamp2 plugin. Real player and Quicktime 6 can also play these files. A lot of other players will play it in the future.

thank you man, seems i wont convert after all, i'll just reencode to have that single bit for MPEG4 so it looks better hehehe, and i wont use mp4 because AAC looks better
