I want to restore the software on an iPod Mini (1st gen) -- no update, just total replacement thru Restore. I have iTunes 10 installed on a computer with no internet connection. It was download a while ago over a high speed connection and carried to the computer on a flash drive. I don't really want iTunes on this computer, but regardless of preferences, iTunes is too large to download over my dial-up connection.

The Apple manual is somewhat confusing. It talks about the iPod Updater application as though it is a separate program but is accessed through iTunes.
Is the iPod Updater the program that actually Restores the iPod software?
Is it part of iTunes of something separate?

When I connect the iPod to the computer and go to the iTunes screen with the Restore button, it asks if I want to update the software when I click on Restore. The only options are Check and Cancel. Check wants an internet connection in order to look for newer software. There seems to be no way to get it to just do the Restore operation.

Looks like you need to get a computer with internet.
