Muvo TX replacement, Sansa clip+ or?

Our collection of Muvo TX players is getting old and too small, so I am looking at some replacement devices. I like the Muvo TX format, its a thumbdrive that needs no cord or software, plug in and play or drag files. Slip on a little jacket with a AAA and its a portable that works fine with headsets or line out.

Internal storage not critical, but two cars have USB input with 2GB limits.
Must have micro SD slot at least 16GB supported.
Good with Sennheiser MX or CX buds.
Good quality, not easily broken.
Prefer no cord direct plug in USB for power and drag and drop drive behavior.

Does Sansa clip+ rule this niche or is something better in same range?

Clip+ isn't even in that niche. It requires a miniUSB cable for connection.
But if that aspect isn't terribly important to you, then i highly recommend the Clip+.

Clip+ is looking most likely, no cord is preferred, but not a deal killer. I just didn't want to buy two or three of the Clips and find something I liked better later.

From my own experience, the headphone socket on the Clip/+ is easy to wear out if you keep connecting two different things (headphones, then line out, for example).

I had a Google last time this topic came up, and while there's universal praise for the Clip's audio quality and price, a few other people seem to have found this same flaw. It seems the socket has no springs, just pins, and they don't take kindly to having different plugs inserted. They start off very tight, but get worn very easily.

There are still three clip/+s in use in our house though. Two of them need special care to get both left and right outputs working through the headphones!

Cheers,
David.

I had a clip and finally the clip broke, and it had a slight noise issue. Got another though, and it's all good (the first lasted a few years).

The case is easy to open so I'd imagine a headphone socket repair may not be too hard (not had that issue myself).

You can rockbox it, battery life is decent, and it has micro sd (I have an 8gb, with a 64gb additional card!)

The quality of the clip+ varies from time to time. I had about 8 clip+ in my household since it was released, bought/replaced across several years and one issue I had with 2 of them is that they sometimes jump to the next song as if it fails decoding, but if you play the file again it plays through fine. Searching rockbox forums shows that it might be an issue with a specific clip series ...

But I still love the tiny thing.

no problems here with my clip+. had it just over 2 years and i regularly swap headphones and a 3.5mm>phono connector. there is no sign of weakness in the jack at all. i've dropped it a fair few times as well and nothing there is nothing noticeable on the exterior. even if it died tomorrow, i'd happily buy another based on the enjoyment/cost ratio it has given me. given how cheap microSDHC cards are these days, you might as well get the cheapest/smallest capacity one you can find.

and another +1 for rockbox as well. how i managed before without proper gapless playback, i'll never know.

I've also never experienced the headphone socket issue and I unplug/plug in my phones several times a day. I'm not really gently with the thing either

No problems here with the Clip+ too.
I also bought the cheapest Clip+ and a high capacity memory card so that it won't hurt me much when I'll have to replace the Clip one day.

I am looking to the Clip+ since my iPod 5.5 was stolen. The only thing I need to know is does the Clip+ support Live Playlists, and, if not, would it support them if I rockboxed the player? Can any of you clip users help me?

Bilbo: You mean creating playlists on the device itself, without a computer? I'm not sure about the default firmware, but Rockbox can.

I'm afraid I have to second 2Bdecided's point about the weak output jack. I had my first one replaced under warranty for this problem, and though I'm being extra-careful now, the jack still feels a bit fragile, even if it's been holding out thus far. Otherwise, the only flaw for me in regular usage is that Rockbox cannot yet play HE-AAC clips from the BBC without occasionally skipping abruptly to the next track during FF/RW; but of course HE-AAC playback is beyond the capabilities of the original firmware of even the more upscale Clip Zip.

Thank you for the reply. I Should have been more specific. Creating on the computer is fine. What I mean by live playlist is say play all songs not played in the last 2 months. By being live, the clip itself will will adjust the playlist as new songs are played. So, the playlist will always play all songs not played in last 2 months and not all songs when the playlist was created.
