Some New CDs don't rip

I have several CDs that will not rip using any decent ripper - EAC, dbpoweramp.
Could they be copy protected and is there a way round this.
I burn all my discs to a hard drive but don't know how to gte over this problem?

Yes, they could be copy protected and if they break the standard should not display the CD audio logo.

Beyond that I hear TOS9 klaxons blaring.

On the other hand, I've had new CDs that were just defective. I returned them for warranty. Might be the problem in your case too.
Music: sounds arranged such that they construct feelings.

I probably have 700-800 CDs, and I haven't run across a copy protected CD yet...  But, I have had CDs that are difficult or impossible to rip completely without errors.

Have you tried a different drive/computer?

I assume you've tried cleaning the CDs?  If you think the CD is scratched/damaged, you can try polishing the CD (search HydrogenAudio for help with that).

If you can play the CD on your computer, you can try making an analog copy (AudioGrabber supports analog ripping).  Or if you have a desktop computer with line-in, you can plug a CD player into your computer and record it.

I have a couple of (perfect condition, not copy protected) CDs which simply will not rip in some drives. They play fine in a normal CD player, and will rip in some other drives.

Bizarrely, one of them is disc one of a two disc set. Disc two rips without problems!

Arny's solution works, but trying a different drive is much quicker if you have one available.
