[USELESS] From: Decoding FLAC supposedly generates unwanted noise

I would rather trust a checksum than my hearing when it comes to lossless (unless it something further up the chain causing the problem, borked player settings or borked DAC\soundcard)

If I change the volume by -0.01dB (no way you would be able to hear this) the checksum changes.

The premise/red herring being propounded above is specifically that bit-identical streams can produce audibly different results due to superimposed noise induced by the decoding process. As has been explained, this is wrong. But the OP is unlikely to be swayed by checksums due to how their chosen cause is different.

Anyway, whole-file checksums are not hugely useful in case tags change or headers are rewritten and restructured. This is why audio-only checksums tend to be preferred.

Nobody who claims a difference in sound has ever argued against the fact that the decoded streams are identical, so I don't know why checksums were brought into the conversation.
