Impossible to use with HDD in heavy usage

Like when working with big files (gigabyte size) and foobar is playing fine in the background, but if you click on its tray icon to open it up and change track it just shows up under a taskbar and that's it. Clicking on taskbar it minimize it again to tray, so then you try to quit it and it simply doesn't for no reason and HDD is already idle. So you're forced to end it via Task Manager, but then next time you start it, it resets layout window size and position + if you did any playlist changes, it loads with older playlist from last successful exit. So I don't understand what it has to do with HDD usage and foobar acting as 'heavy piece of software' that needs multiple Mb/s on HDD to just open up from tray? I get this pretty much every day while at work.

EDIT: Also if after good HDD usage you try to resume the foobar, the sound just lags hard and bad for next 10-15 seconds until it fixes. Buffer length is set to 15000ms in settings. No disrespect but gear like Adobe Photoshop loads, performs and reacts better than foobar on heavy HDD load. This is ridiculous.

How little is there memory in this machine in question and do you use some foobar2000 configuration with heavy third party components? The player allows all non-essential parts of it to be swapped out of memory if needed but in normal situation if you have memory available that doesn't happen. Except on Windows XP.

Another thought is that you have old/faulty HDD controller drivers. On my old memory-constrained work PC, Photoshop could be completely paged out, and foobar2000 would not hiccup during its reload, and that was WinXP / Core i3 / 2GB RAM.

Hey all thanks for replies. I'm running on i5 system with 8GM of RAM and hard drives are like 2 years old with lots of free space, total capacity of 2TB.

Maybe you would like to try installing a third-party software named Process Lasso.
Maybe read a previous support forum post I made here.
It is very difficult to solve esoteric computer problems such as yours over the internet.

In my humble opinion, many people who come here to the foobar2000 support forum with 'issues' about foobar2000 need to understand that this a VERY mature software project. The vast majority of people using this software do not get these 'issues', therefore common sense would strongly hint that most of these cases are caused by some problem with somebody's computer system AND NOT foobar2000.

I don't want to use and run extra software in the background like Process Lasso just to run foobar with higher priorities. But I think you might be right, this HDD might need some help already after that many times of heavy lifting.

Any tool recommendation to check HDD health and speed, detect problems and issues?

Apart from line 1, read line 2 of my previous post as well (and click on the link).

The fingertip tools I use for hardware diagnostics are: HDDScan, HD Tune, CrystalDiskInfo
