I am having more struggles....

ImgBurn won't open my EAC cue sheets to burn my my FLAC and ALAC files, so I did some reading and learned I need DirectShow filters installed on my computer, I think to convert these formats to the audio form that can be used by ImgBurn for burning CDs. So I downloaded and installed the "DC-Bass Source Filter" from here: ( http://dsp-worx.de/?n=15 ) and now I get a different message when I try to open the cue sheet in ImgBurn:

"The program can't start because OptimFROG.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this program."

I don't know why I need OptimFROG for FLAC and ALAC files. I downloaded it anyway, but can't figure out what to do with it.

.....Thanks!

The EAC Lossless Backup wiki says:

"While [Exact Audio Copy] extracts the CD open the cue Sheet that it made with a text editor such as notepad and run find/replace and replace .wav and WAVE with the files extension you used for compression (ie for FLAC replace it with ".flac" and "FLAC" or for Apple Lossless replace it with ".m4a" and "Apple Lossless"). [...] When the CD is done extracting and compressing the CUE can now be used to write a CD using a program that is compatable with EAC's noncompliant CUE sheets such as burrrn (Nero will not work unfortunately)."

For the CDs I have ripped thus far, I have been editing the cue sheets, replacing ".wav" and "WAVE" with ".flac" and "FLAC" as instructed, but I just discovered that EAC cannot use FLAC files for writing, meaning I have to separately decode them to WAVE first or use other burning software.

I am guessing the above wiki instruction to edit the cue sheets in this way was written with burrrn in mind as the CD writing software (since it didn't work for EAC). So maybe I should give burrrn a try. Is my guess correct -- does burrrn allow for easy decompressing/writing of FLAC files? Also, is 1.14 Beta 2 the latest version? I am not able to get on the actual burrrn website at the moment due to a "Bandwidth Limit Exceeded" problem with the site. I see 1.14 Beta 2 offered elsewhere and am just wondering if that is in fact the latest version because it appears to be very old.

If neither burrrn, ImgBurn, or EAC will work for easy decompressing/writing of FLAC files, does anyone know of software that will? I am hoping to make it as simple as possible so that my mom will not have to manually decompress FLAC files to WAV before burning CDs.

Thanks.

ImgBurn works fine for me on FLAC with the DirectShow filters installed (I used K-Lite Basic which includes DB-Bass Source Filter and would cover ALAC as well). I don't change "WAVE" to "FLAC" in the cue sheet though (just .wav to .flac).
Don't know what happened to your DB-Bass installation. Did you try putting OptimFROG.dll in the DB-Bass folder with the rest of the dll's?

You're confusing things. EAC is a backup program to convert your audio cds to any audio format you want; FLAC(image+cue), or FLAC(tracks) for instance. ImgBurn is for the other way around, to burn the FLAC(image+cue) to an audio cd again (amongst many other features). The latter is what you want, right?

Install DC-Bass Source (Mod), or any other DirectShow FLAC decoder, create fully working cue-sheets (Only change .wav to .flac. Don't touch WAVE), and you should be able to open the cue-files in ImgBurn.

Thanks for the replies.

I did use EAC for ripping (and I do understand that is EAC's primary use). I had been hoping to use ImgBurn for burning, but by the time I wrote my second post I thought I would have to use EAC's built-in burning feature because I couldn't get ImgBurn to work with FLAC files.

I tried changing "FLAC" back to "WAVE" in one of my cue sheets (but left the track file extensions as .flac) and opened it in ImgBurn again, but I still got the error message about the OptimFROG.dll. I then put OptimFROG.dll into the DC-Bass Source folder and it appears to have solved the problem! I assumed DC-Bass Source included everything it needed, but I see now that OptimFROG is proprietary, so maybe the author(s) of DC-Bass Source can't legally distribute OptimFROG.dll. Out of curiosity, I then changed "WAVE" back to "FLAC" in the cue sheet and was still able to open it in ImgBurn and successfully burn a CD. So I'm wondering, is it okay to leave the "FLAC" labels in the cue sheet or is there another reason why I should leave them as "WAVE"?

Then I'm really wondering where you downloaded DC-Bass Source, because my archive/installer (as well as DCoder's) always comes with OptimFROG.dll.

As a side note... If you don't need OptimFROG, or any other audio format, you can disable it by changing the 1 into a 0 in Registration.ini (DC-Bass Source) / Formats.ini (DC-Bass Source Mod) prior to registering the ax-file. Then you can also delete OptimFROG.dll.

If it works, it works, but it's not a valid file type.

Thanks for the link, CoRoNe. I will change all the "FLAC" file type references back to "WAVE". The wiki I mentioned above might need to be corrected.

I downloaded DC-Bass Source v1.30 using the installer from here: http://dsp-worx.de/?n=15
which I thought looked like the official website, but I really don't know. (Let me know if it isn't!)

I just uninstalled it and re-downloaded/installed it to see if OptimFROG.dll was included in the installation, but it did not appear in the program folder. I'll just put it there m'self.

It is the official website, but I've never used the installer really, so I've had a look and you're right. Unlike the archive, DCoder forgot to pack OptimFROG.dll with the installer.
DC-Bass Source Mod contains an updated OptimFROG.dll and I didn't forget to pack it. wink.gif

The second paragraph of your text is totally hermetic.... cue-sheet? a FLAC decoder, which, DC-Bass.....

Welcome to the forum.

What is your question? If it's a question at all.
What is it you don't understand?
