Batch/auto creating ID tags for numerous files?

I've been converted today.

After getting pretty much fed up with the whole LAME -this- setting is better debacle,  I tried MPC today and love it.  I still can't believe the files are actually smaller than when I was using the highest quality Lame options!

I've spent the past two hours looking for a proggy to batch/auto process ID tags for numerous mpc files but I cannot find even one.  The ones mentioned on this board don't do auto ID tag creating, along the lines of MPTagger for mp3's,  and only work one file at a time.  Anyone know of such a proggy?  Thanks.

I haven't used this program much yet, but it might do what you are looking for:

Also, Helium² (which is a great mp3 tagger/editor/database manager, etc) will have MPC support in nearly a few days now I hear.

Try www.renatager.de (works well with mpc).

Thanks guys.

D, I already tried that one and, unless I missed it, it doesn't do batch/auto ID'ing.  I combed the options and features over a few times but still don't see anything about doing more than one file. It'll do numerous files when you want to add the same thing, like a comment(version of encoder, etc.), into many files.

OK, I just tried out MP3Renatagger but when selecting more than one file and then creating/writing the tags it writes the first file's info in all subsequent files.  I don't think it was written for MPC since I see absolutely nothing about MPC in the help file or inside the program itself.  So, the search continues.

Remember that the ID3v1.1 format is implemented exactly the same in mpc as mp3. So any mp3 ID3v1.1 batch processing program should work on mpc as long as the program accepts the mpc/mp+ extension as a compatible file.

A program that you may be looking for is Dr Tag, a shareware/freeware program. Just add the mpc/mp+ extension in the settings option.

Set the tagging for ID3v1 only! The ID3v2 tagging will destroy your mpc file even if you remove it after adding it (it parses the mpc header as mp3 and tries to correct it). To do batch naming, select multiple files and  select 'Generate ID3 Tag' from the menu.

MpTagger works fine with MPC, as long as you set it to only use v1 tags. Use it myself

Well don't I feel silly! LOL!  I had no clue MpTagger would work. I figured since the format (mp3/mpc) was different it would screw up the files and, gotta admit, I didn't even try it.  Thanks, guys!

The funny thing is the file size when they're named like so: "Xenon - 1989 - America's New Design - 01 - Tip of My Fingers.mpc"  is actually slightly bigger than when it's shortened to just the band name/track#/title and then given an ID3.1 tag.  I thought since you're adding to the file, even though text are only a few bits, that the file with the ID3.1 tag would be slightly bigger, but it's not.  Interesting.....

This is not try.
I used the upcomming Helium2 to inset id3v2 tags. removed them and I had bit per bit exactly the same file.

This I did before it officially supported mpc (renamed to mp3).
np in id3v2-tags if the decoder supports it.

You are right. I have tried MP+/MPC files with v2 tags that wouldn't play. After removing the v2 tags they played flawlessly again.

I was actually referring to the Dr Tag application. Obviously Helium is the better package when it comes to ID3v2 tagging for mpc.

Orlsoft MPeg Extension also suplies winamp plugin for playing mpc files with id3v2 tags (ignores them):

Buschel should reliese his plugin that will be better with id3v2 (alow seeking which isn't allowed in above plugin), but I don't know why he didn't do that till now.

I use MPTagger (to get tag from filename) and Tag&Rename (for multitagging) in combination to tag mpc files and it works great.

Why use another program for multitagging when MPTagger can do that?  I've been multitagging from filename since I started converting over my CDs to MPC with MPTagger and it works fine.  This only applies to ID3v1 tags though.  I haven't tried ID3v2, and since the Winamp plugin doesn't work with ID3v2 tags it doesn't matter at this stage.  98% of my titles fit into the ID3v1 format anyhow.

Because it only supports id3v1 and you might want to have more information that you can put into that.

There is a plugin that supports mpc id3v2.

1) MPTagger supports v2 tags just fine

2) Is there a stand-alone (no installation of a whole program to get the plugin) MPC-plugin that supports v2?
If so, where?

How can you set just one field for more than one selected file without afecting other fields?
I think this MPTagger can't do. Thats why I use Tag&Rename.

1) Hmm. I select the files, edit the one field I want to change, clear the rest of the fields and let the program write the new field into the files. It seems that existing values for the other fields aren't affected by this.

Thanks for the link

I gotta try this plugin when I get home.  3.2 tags, eh?  Sounds good.
