Highlight currently played track automatically

I have a playlist of 3000 or so songs, so obviously the playlist covers more than can be displayed on one screen. In playback: shuffle, follow cursor and repeat are selected. The problem is when Foobar starts playing, I can see the song on the list. I minimize the window to the system tray. It shuffles to the next track. I maximize the window, and it shows the same position in the playlist of the song before.

I set up a keyboard shortcut to "highlight currently played track". Is it possible to have an option where that can happen automatically every time a new track is played or the window is opened? Perhaps that option is already there but I can't see it. I guess I'm just used to Winamp following the currently played track around in a playlist, and I like to see where in the playlist the currently played track is.

I agree, this would be an awesome feature to have. Other then that, foobar2k is bomb.

Thanks for the great program

If you have "follow cursor" enabled on 0.56 it will do what you want I think.

Hope that helps

Indeed it does, but it also does another thing which doesn't seem related to me.

So, what does "follow cursor" do?

1. It keeps the currently playing song visible in the playlist.

2. It makes the selected song on the playlist become the next song to be played when Shuffle mode is on.

3. Maybe some other thing I am unaware of.

I don't see the relationship between (1) and (2).  IOW, I can't see why having one of them should necessitate having the other.  It seems like these two things should be de-coupled.

If you add
Code: [Select]
$if(%_isplaying%,BB0000,000000)

to your playlist formatting config (prefrrences - display - formatting), the currently playing track will be blue, and all others will be black. You can change the colors by changing the 'BB0000' and '000000' to the hex values of whichever colors you like. It's not exactly highlighting, but it'll make the active track stand out.

You've all missed the orignal posters point - that follow cursor doesn't work when foobar is minimised to tray, and hasn't done from 0.5 onwards. I thought it was intentional, but I dont really know..

Since it works OK on a window that's out of focus or not visible, you'd think they'd want it to work when minimized as well.  Sounds like a bug.

I thought it was intentional because it didn't work properly in 0.43 and before, when foobar was restored the playlist area would be one below the current track.

It does highlight the track when its minimised to tray, but it doesn't scroll to the track like when its in normal view. You won't notice it unless you've got a long playlist (and use shuffle too).

Exactly.  Sounds like the cursor's not getting updated when minimized or the screen isn't being refreshed with the new cursor when restored.
