Output Format is grayed out

I'm trying to debug why my audio is crackling when playing music on Foobar through Airfoil and into my Apple Airport Express.

Coming across this thread it seems that I have to make sure the output is set to 44100 Hz 16-bit.

I'm trying to see what output Foobar is playing out at and I can't even see that or select an option as it's just grayed out and it won't let me select it.
Thoughts?

"Primary Sound Driver" usually means DirectSound, or DS short. This means that Windows manages the format of the playback device. Check Windows control panel - Sound, or rightblick the speaker tray icon in your taskbar.

From there go to your actual playback device, properties, advanced (the last tab). Here you should be able to set the system wide playback format for that device.

Just had a moment to look into this further. Thank you Xnor.
It also seems like Directsound can cause this issue too. I'll mess around this weekend and see what I can figure out.
