foo_input_sacd: direct DSD playback error

I've installed foo_dsd_asio and try to play SACD with direct DSD stream. With "ASIO Native" playback method, I get

"Unrecoverable playback error: Sample rate of 44100 Hz not supported by this device"

error. That's not true: I can play CD rips bit-perfectly. My AVP shows 44100Hz when I playback such files. Moreover, I'm able to play DTS CD rips and AVP decodes them correctly, meaning, the ASIO interface and the audio card both support 44100Hz. All is done via ASIO!

So why such an error message then?

Windows XP SP3, Asus Xonar HDAV1.3 Slim, connected via HDMI to Onkyo PR-SC5509, if it matters.

Other methods either produce no sound, or just hum.

By the way, why does it require 44100 anyway? With "other methods that produce hum" the AVP shows 176200 Hz sample rate! Which is reasonable value considering that 176200*16=2819200. OK, 44100*32*2 gives the same, but I have the same error message when I set up ASIO to 16-bit only!

I could look into the code, but, unlike foo_input_sacd itself, the DSD proxy is not open source

Just use Audio Driver Mode: PCM instead of DSD

I'm not that stupid as I look  That's what I use. Moreover, currently I use this version, which really sounds better for me, but I'd like to be able to stream DSD, because my AVP supports it.

Update.
I tried updated versions of the ASIO driver for my sound card. Now all but "ASIO Native" methods produce different kinds of hum, and all are seen by AVP as 176200Hz, but "ASIO Native" still reports the same error.

I am using foo_input_sacd without error on an ASIO-native card (E-MU1820). I choose the output at 176kHz...

From your description, you use PCM, not DSD mode, because for DSD, the sample rate setting has no effect. In PCM mode I have no problems as well.

99.9% of the PC sound cards don't accept DSD streams as input.
Your Sonar HDAV doesn't support native DSD either.
You need something like MYTEK STEREO 192-DSD DAC or MSB DAC IV or  Sonore DSD DAC to accept DSD streams.

Before updating to latest SACD plugin for foobar I had no problems streaming DSD to receiver (Pioneer Elite DSD capable over HDMI) After updating I'm getting the same 44.1 not supported error when using DSD direct. F

Sounds promising! Which card do you have, and which version of the plug-in worked for you?
