Background

Chapter 2 of Perceptual model for assessment of coded audio by David J M Robinson, PhD University of Essex, 2002.

Includes discussion of various methods of codec assessment, especially section 2.3.4.

I would probably write this chapter differently if I was writing it now. The sections on MPEG coding were included because I felt I had to, not because I had any useful knowledge to impart! The latter sections are useful for the "RMAA Test on different Codec" thread.
