EAC vs CueTools/CueRipper

I'm curious to know what people choose to use to rip CDs to FLAC.

I'm new to both so i'm open to peoples views.

I use dbPoweramp and find it work's great, but it is not free.

EAC seems to be very popular on this site as well. I believe that one is free.
There are other options available but those seem to be the two most popular.

Both those include accrate rip which is a program that lets you know your rip was successful.
Make sure whichever program you go with it includes that.

I'll use whatever gets the job done.  It's usually EAC but for tracks it cannot rip accurately I'll give dBpoweramp a shot (and/or other drives).  Occasionally this will make a difference.  I've heard enough good things about CueRipper to give it a try next time EAC can't get the job done.

There are still other options for secure ripping in Windows: foobar2000, CDex, Easy CD-DA Extractor and PlexTools (if you have a Plextor drive), and others.

For Mac, solutions include Rip and XLD.  Linux has a few solutions based around cdparanoia.

The great thing about choices is that you don't have to use just one.

I've been lurking around and decided to make attempts with fbk2 and CUETools.

Does any of you use CUETools? I downloaded the program and there are 2 .exe in their folder to perform rip's: CUETools.exe and CUERipper.exe but, since I'm very dumb (or very old?) , I could not figure out which one I should use....

CueTool.exe is splitter, converter, verifier, etc.
CueRipper.exe is the ripper.

You stand correct. What I mean is that ripping can be done through both .exe's. Through CueRipper.exe, the interface is very simple and there are no submenus to configure. Through CueTools.exe there are some settings submenus.

Possibly, and here is the thing I don't have a clue, CueRipper.exe is called when ripping through CueTools.exe. But are the settings from CueTools.exe used if ripping through CueRipper.exe? Will it use some "default" regardless of what has been set previously on CueTools?(such as the way one wishes a cue sheet to appended/created etc)

I used the guide to EAC from this site's Wiki.

The thing I like about EAC is if you get a good rip, it IS a good rip. And if it's bad it tells you where exactly it's bad. I have ripped my 500 CDs with EAC and only a few of them took awhile. One took 30 minutes to rip with EAC, I don't know why it the T&C was perfect as was the Accurip. But most are fairly quick.

If you have a new CD straight out the box, I would use dbPoweramp or another ripper.

Oddly enough if I have a scratched cd and I want to try to get an acceptable rip from it, I found Audiograbber works the best. I got if from a post on here

I wouldn't make audiograbber my first or even second choice by any means but I really have gotten a decent rip from scratched CDs using it, while all the other rippers I tried failed. You might want to give it a shot if all else fails

This is news to me. And since I can't get it to work, I can't really help you, I've got files, but no metainfo. Ripper settings seem to have reverted to default ones, settings for path, cue format and compression are CueTools'.

Actually it's been very well documented that EAC can tell you that there are no errors when there really are.

You didn't provide us any data to assess your conclusion, let alone tell us how you conducted your test or what the metrics were.
