Audigy - Playcenter Or Wa2 ?

I was using WinAmp2 + Mad Plug + Adaptx plug-in for wa2
+ couple of waves plug (linear eq + L2).

Now i read that win limited the output to 85 db.

Is that the same for playcenter (absolutely horrible interface but good sounding !)

I'm listening to mp3's encoded with lame -extreme.

Thanks

Nin Acoustics perfomances !

I don't know what Windows version you have, but only win2k without SP3 has some problems with kmixer, namely that all audio input and output is truncated to 16 bits. This does not limit SNR to 85dB.

As for using Winamp2 or Playcenter, use whichever you like. They both use decoder from Fraunhofer so you won't hear any decoding differences. If you find Playcenter sounding better, it's probably only outputting with louder volume.

Btw, I tested SNR at 44.1kHz mode on WinXP at sound card drivers level with Audigy, it was 100.1dB. Test was done with RMAA 4.1 by recording directly wave out.

Using winxp pro.

Even the mad plug in decoder use the codec from fraunhauffer ?

Is there an alternative decoder ? (better quality ?)

I've tried the asio decoder for winamp but it never worked from what i've understood it's supposed to give better quality to winamp ?

.........................

Someone is aware if the audigy 1 gonna support sacd eventually ?
Like the audigy 2 ? even with the sampling limitation ?

And if you need a special dvd reader for playing sacd on the computer or a regular dvd player's gonna work ?

Thanks

@hellfloyd: Do you actually have (hear) any problems with the reference mp3 decoder (Fraunhofer)?
