glitch at the end of gapless albums burned on itunes

hi all!

i am having a similar problem on both my pc and ppc mac, but i am using a 10.5.8 ppc mac atm.

the problem is this:

i bought some flac files that are gapless.
i burned them using an application for a ppc mac called burn
http://burn-osx.sourceforge.net/Pages/English/home.html

i made sure to set gaps between tracks to 0.

i noticed blips/clicks on most of the transition track-mark points.

i used an application called fluke, which enables itunes to read the flacs.
i then converted the flacs to apple lossless.
i played the album in a playlist, completely smooth playback!

i burned those lossless files to disc, making sure gaps between tracks was set to 0 on itunes.

result, slightly better, but there are still 'blips' at the track transition points.

any advice would be greatly appreciated

baz

I don't have a Mac...*

Whenever I've made a gapless CD, I use one continuous WAV file (you can join the FLACs with an audio editor) and a cue file to set the track markers.  (I don't know if Burn supports cue sheets.)

* On my Windows PCs, I use ImgBurn (FREE) for burning CDs & DVDs, and GoldWave ($50 USD) as my audio editor.

If you buy flac files from the net the chances are high their origin is not a cd. In this case the files don't end on cd frame boundaries and no burning program can make it perfectly gapless. For Windows i know programs that can fix the files to fit frame boundaries, not so for Mac, sorry.

Edit: Only now recognized you have access to a PC also. You may get this nice little tool here http://tlh.easytree.org/ called Traders´s Little Helper. Under Tools you can use fix SBEs. Just drop in all files in the correct order and let it fix. You may try mode: fix with action: shift backwards. Please tell us if the fixed files burn correctly afterwards.

TLH is just invokng the command-line app shntool, which, among other things, can adjust the boundaries for a set of audio files as needed to prep them for audio CD. There's an OS X version available as well.

@ DVDdoug:

so you have to create single wav. files because you find itunes cannot provide gapless burns?

i have an audio editor on my mac called BiasPeak, i will try that again.

i tried it once, and i still heard a 'blip' when i imported & joined tracks 1 & 2 together.

i couldn't see any silent space even when i zoomed in to the start/end points.

i fear i may have to 'overlap' each of the corresponding flac files in the editor to fix the blips.

@Wombat:

i do have a pc, but it is out of order atm, that's why i'm using my mac.

@mlb2006:

i visited that page, and the tar file link does not work.
it looked a tad 'advanced' to me anyway.

No, that’s not what he said. He said generally that he has a different method for writing gapless CDs. He didn’t comment on whether or not iTunes has any particular features. I assume he just doesn’t use iTunes and wanted to mention the different way in which he writes CDs. Where did you conjure iTunes from?

Anyway, iTunes supports neither FLAC nor cuesheets, so Doug’s method is not applicable if you suddenly want to use iTunes. As for whether or not it can write gaplessly from formats it does support, I leave that to other members to say. But they have to say it, not say something else that you read totally different meanings into.

Just wanted to add this for completeness.
At the Slimdevices forum the member tfec postet a link to a tool for Mac related to another problem. When looking into it there seems to be the comfortble option to fix the SBEs.
xACT is a frontend to shntool and more: http://xact.scottcbrown.org/
