Converting ID3 v2.3/2.4 tags to ID3 v2.2

Does any of you know if there's a program or a script that would batch convert ID3 v2.3 tags to ID3 v2.2 (except Itunes?)

I have tried most known freeware taggers and none of them offered such a feature, as far as I have noticed. Some of them provided automatic conversion of ID3 v2.x to ID3 v2.3 but none provided a way to do it the other way round.

It seems that mp3infp allows the conversion but only on a file per file basis.

I have tried the searching the forum but to no avail(It's also quite difficult to search when you query inevitably involves keywords which are 3 letters long).

Thank you very much in advance.

For mp3 tagging I use ID3-TagIT.

It allows you to convert the tags from id3 2.4 to v2.3 & vice-versa.

Note : This program requires Microsoft dot Net Framework. Download it from Microsoft

I'm not sure about id3 v2.2.

However most of the player etc now support id3 v2.3, So ID3 v2.3 should not be a problem. ;-)

HI,

Thank you for your response. Unfortunaltely, I have tried id3 tag IT before asking the original question. It can indeed convert 2.3 to 2.4 and back but not 2.3 or 2.4 to 2.2. So far the only application offering this function that I know of is Itunes, and it bugs me a little to install Itunes for that purpose only.

I know most players can support 2.3 tags, but after several tests, my (crappy) USB stick player cannot read those. It can read v1 tags and v 2.2 only it seems. The firmware is supposedly updatable, but I can't even find the homepage of the manufacturer(Höher) let alone a firmware upgrade.

I could tag my files with Tagger or Foobar and add only ID3 v1 and APE tags but it seems that when APE tags are present, there are reading errors(talk about a crappy player).

Thank you.

My bad, after further investigations, it seems the culprit was that both Foobar 2k and Mp3tag were set up to write UTF 16 tags. Switching to ISO 88589-1 did the trick....
