I am recently converting a lot of my FLAC albums into MP3 with 320kbps.
This being said, I use the program "fre:ac" with LAME version 3.98.4.

My question is the following (please have a look at the little screen shot):

The stereo mode offers the following options: Auto, Mono, Stereo, Joint Stereo.

I always set the encoder configurations on Joint Stereo. Until now I never activated the "Force Joint Stereo" thing when I converted FLAC into MP3.

Can someone please explain me the "Force" option? Am I doing everything right with keeping the settings on "Joint Stereo" without "Force Joint Stereo" and what advantage/disadvantages would forced Joint Stereo have for the MP3 result?

Thanks in advance!

I'm not 100% sure (I don't use fre:ac), but it seems that Force Joint Stereo = FORCED MID/SIDE STEREO: "It should only be used if you are sure every frame of the input file has very little stereo separation".
