Storing custom tags in an external database

I'm looking for a plugin which allows me to individually tag my music. Like tags on last.fm, nothing spectacular.
The thing is I don't want to modify my files (e.g. add a new field in the id3v2 tag) but rather store the information in a database/external file. (like foo_playcount)
foo_custominfo seems to do just that but sadly is no longer available.
Any other suggestions?

There is another component, but it is listed in online troubleshooter and wasn't developed for two years. So there isn't a well working database component!

+1 for this request. Would be amazing if a dev can cook up something that uses SQLite!
